Our Love Sustainability Journey wins big at Tomorrow’s Cleaning Awards

Every year Tomorrow’s Cleaning celebrate the most innovative products and services in the industry, awarding those who are really making an impact in the cleaning and hygiene sector. This year we are delighted to share the news that Rubbermaid Commercial Products Europe has taken home the trophy, with our Love Sustainability Journey voted in top spot.

EVERYONE WINS

Launched back in August 2022, the Love Sustainability Journey is our declaration of our commitment to becoming as sustainable as possible, as well as supporting other businesses in taking steps to act more sustainably too.

Speaking of the win, Emilio Capelli, VP Sales & Marketing International for Commercial at Newell Brands said:

“We are delighted that the Love Sustainability Journey has been selected as this year’s winner. The Journey isn’t just about what RCP is doing to become more sustainable as a business, but also our commitments to helping the businesses we work with to take steps to act more sustainably too, so we’re proud to have inspired the readers of Tomorrow’s Cleaning.

“The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report warned ‘there is a rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all’, a stark reminder of just how important making steps forward in commercial sustainability are. Thank you to everyone who has joined us on our Journey so far. Let’s do this together!”

THE JOURNEY TO A GREENER FUTURE

Initiatives like the Journey are sorely needed: 59% of businesses claim to have internal sustainability initiatives in place[1] but with increasing pressure from customers and staff to be demonstrably ‘greener’, without transparency and definitions of ‘green’, confusion about which practices are actually sustainable can frustrate both businesses and consumers.

The award-winning Journey was designed to be an antidote to this confusion and ‘greenwashing’, giving structure, depth and substance to making incremental sustainability gains, helping protect the planet against a backdrop of commercial considerations and challenges.

Key targets that we hold ourselves accountable against – in line with our parent company, Newell Brands* – include a 2025 target for 100% of direct-sourced paper-based packaging to come from certified, verified or recycled sources.   Reducing waste to landfill by 90% is another ambitious Newell Brands 2025 target, which RCP plans to support at our own operations locations.

These examples of tangible goals are underscored by our Culture and Education Journey target to hold ourselves to account by issuing its first Sustainability Annual Report in 2023.

GIVING BUSINESSES THE TOOLS

We’re dedicated to being part of a concerted sustainability effort across the business world not just through our own products, but through vital education and sustainability tools. Our Love Sustainability Journey is backed by a raft of RCP resources designed to benefit businesses, featuring:

  • Love Recycling: since launching the programme in 2020, has consistently added to the market intelligence, insights and case studies that form part of this award-winning programme to support partners and customers.
  • Taking just 90 seconds, the recycling audit tool quickly uncovers the savings facilities can make by implementing strategic recycling programmes.
  • Love to Learn, features free online training modules, to help businesses achieve their sustainability goals.
  • Case studies that businesses can learn from including insights into how DPD, one of Europe’s leading parcel groups, benefitted from 27% cost savings, when it introduced Slim Jim ® Recycling Stations across its depot locations. The business is set to recoup their investment within a year thanks to cost savings from not sending waste to general disposal.
