As we start gearing up for a new year, we wanted to take a step back and reflect on 2024. From a growing team to international events and creating valuable resources for customers, it’s been a busy year. Here are our top moments from 2024.
Some significant changes in commercial recycling legislation came into effect in Wales this year and some similar rules are set to come into force across England from 31st March 2025. We’ve therefore spent the year supporting Welsh end user customers through the changes and preparing our English customers for theirs.
From easy-to-read guides hosted on our English Recycling legislation hub to informative social content and other resources such as printable recycling posters, educating and helping our customers adapt their facilities ahead of the changes has been a key focus.
National Business Development Manager, Ben Clibbery, also hosted a webinar for UK Hospitality where he shared his expertise on improving waste and recycling practices to support businesses ahead of the new ‘Simpler Recycling’ rules, with another webinar planned with The Caterer in the new year.
We welcomed Adriana Olaya Rodriguez as our sustainability and communications manager (EMEA, LATAM and APAC), a new role for the business. With her impressive credentials and background in research and consultancy, she brings a unique set of skills and expertise to the role. She is spearheading the sustainability strategy and supporting us, our distribution partners and our end user customers, to drive positive change through actions, communications and engagement.

As well as designing and creating increasingly more sustainable products to help our customers reduce their environmental footprint, we have also been focusing on improving our workspaces and operations.
At our UK HQ, Fradley Park, 1,650 solar panels have been installed on the roof which allows the site to be energy self-sufficient during daylight hours. We’ve also created a biodiversity sanctuary called the Woodland Walk, built by the Newell staff to repurpose disused land and create a natural space amongst the industrial landscape.
Year-on-year (2021-2022), Fradley Park has also seen:
Sorting for recycling volume grown by 45% to 404 tonnes
Electricity usage declined 15% thanks to LED lighting installed throughout and solar panel installation
Gas usage decreased by 41% thanks to the installation of high efficiency, low threshold NOX gas efficient boilers
CO2 emissions reduced by 36%, a dramatic drop due thanks to replacing coal in our energy supply with renewable energy
This year the team have attended a variety of international, sector and customer events. From ISSA in the US to Interclean in Amsterdam and various UK and Continental Europe events, it’s been great to showcase our range and connect with customers and those in the industry. We also attended UK Hospitality’s Sustainability Seminar, taking away some invaluable insight and connecting with industry leaders.
Finally, this year marked us becoming official members of the Chartered Institution of Waste Management (CIWM), a leading professional body for resource and waste professionals. We’re looking forward to communicating knowledge with other members, sharing our own expertise and building connections.
We held our third annual BTSOC roadshow, hosting over 200 global events and thanking more than 17,000 cleaning and maintenance professionals. We headed to the Vale Resort, Hotel Gascogne and The Hamburg Marriott Hotel. It was great to connect with the individuals who are dedicated to providing the highest hygiene standards for both guests and staff alike.
This year has been a year of building connections, supporting customers through milestone legislation and driving our own sustainability journey forwards. We’re looking forward to another big year next year.
